Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts

Dean's Welcome

Greetings from Interim Dean Kenneth J. Knoespel

Interim Dean Kenneth J. Knoespel

A young woman entering the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts asked me how our courses would challenge her. It turned out that she had perfect SAT scores - both math and verbal. She wanted to know how the College would excite “both sides” of her brain.

Her query speaks to what is distinctive about this College. At the center of one of the nation’s premier technological research university, the Ivan Allen College emphasizes both the “right-brain” humanistic and synthesistic perspective of the liberal arts and the “left-brain” technical and analytical skills for which Georgia Tech is known.

With this focus, we are in a remarkable position to engage the curiosity and creativity of all Georgia Tech students. Through core offerings in the humanities and social sciences which enrich the education of students across the campus, as well as through our undergraduate and graduate degree programs, faculty and students explore questions about the constitution of our work together and the shape of things to come. Our graduates enter the job market with knowledge and abilities that distinguish them from their peers and prepare them to lead a technology-driven world.
