B.S. in Public Policy

Public PolicyGeorgia Tech's Bachelor of Science in Public Policy prepares students for careers in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors as analysts and decision makers. Courses enable students to combine political, social, economic, and ethical approaches to practical problem solving in a technology-infused environment.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Policy (B.S. PP) is designed to provide an education that combines strong analytical skills with understanding of a range of substantive policy issues and the political, social, and cultural forces that shape public policies. The B.S. PP core courses provide students with the broad political and philosophical foundations of thought pertinent to public policy, a base of rigorous quantitative and qualitative analytical approaches, and a solid understanding of the political, social, and cultural dynamics that structure policy debates and policy outcomes. Elective courses are offered in such areas as environmental policy, science and technology policy, information and telecommunication policy, and regional development policy. The program's emphasis on the development of problem-solving and analytical skills constitutes a strong comparative advantage for B.S. PP graduates.

An important part of the undergraduate program in Public Policy is to learn how to navigate among the many disciplines that are used to shape strategic decisions. These include economics, political science, sociology, ethics, statistics, and philosophy. Knowledge and techniques from these fields are integrated in core and elective courses, culminating in a senior research project (often conducted for a public or nonprofit agency) that demonstrates students' disciplinary and interdisciplinary agility. And many BSPP students choose to focus additional effort in the School's pre-law or philosophy programs. In addition to the School's academic advising structure, every student is assigned a faculty mentor who will help with course selections, internship and research opportunities, and career preparation.
