Thomas “Danny” Boston is a Professor of Economics in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech. He received the Ph.D. Degree in Economics from Cornell University, focusing on economic development and macroeconomics. His current areas of research are Quantitative Program Performance Evaluations; Minority and Small Business Entrepreneurship; and Public Housing and Community Development.

He is also the author or editor of six books and numerous scholarly articles. He is past President of the National Economic Association, past editor of The Review of Black Political Economy, former Senior Economist to the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, former member of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank Advisory Council on Small and Midsize Businesses, and past economic advisor to four mayors of Atlanta.

He has received research grants from the MacArthur Foundation, Kauffman Foundation, US Department of Housing and Urban Development and numerous others agencies and foundations. A national and international consultant, he served as advisor to the Nigerian National Assembly on evaluating Millennium Development Goals and the South African Free State Legislature on MDGs.  Recently, the US Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship designated him the Committee’s primary data analyst and researcher.

A successful entrepreneur, he is founder and CEO of EuQuant, an economic consulting company. Atlanta Tribune recently ranked EuQuant #2 among Black-owned businesses in the State of Georgia, based on innovation, community commitment and financial capacity. Danny also publishes the Gazelle Index, a small and minority business blog (www.gazelleindex.com). Google ranks Gazelle Index #1 in search results on the hiring and outlook of businesses owned by Blacks, Latinos, Asians, women and minorities.  

Dr. Boston has received many awards, including the Purple Heart for US military service; Georgia Tech’s “Ivan Allen College Legacy Award”; Georgia Tech’s “Undergraduate Professor of the Year Award”; the “State of Georgia Economics Educator of the Year Award." In October of 2012, he received the Chairman’s Award from the Greater Atlanta Economic Alliance.

Danny works closely with several Congressional Committees and has testified numerous times before committees of the House and Senate; most recently in September of 2012. In April, he was invited to the White House to discuss the state of African Americans during the economic recovery and make recommendations.

He is married to Dr. Catherine Ross, and they have two children.
