Past Essay Contest Winners
2008 Essay Contest Winner Kaitlyn Whiteside
"Through the Ivan Allen Civic Responsibility Essay Contest I was not only able to meet some of my future professors and students, but also learn about the history of the Institution that I had chosen to attend as well as the rich background of Atlanta. Additionally, through researching and writing my essay I discovered things about my subject and myself that were priceless lessons."
2007 Essay Contest Winner Travis Horsley
"It was an honor to accept the IAC Essay Contest scholarship. I explored the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, a true Georgia hero! His convictions about the socioeconomic disparities that exist in our nation helped mold my studies at Tech to this date."
From Hampton, Georgia, Travis is a second year student in the Ivan Allen College. He is pursuing joint majors in Public Policy and International Affairs. "Tech allows me to focus on everything in an intertwined fashion - whether it be going to class, working at Georgia Tech Research Institute, an internship at the state capitol, working as a Peer Leader (RA) in the Freshmen Experience residence halls, or serving my fellow students on Student Government - everything builds on each other... I love it!"
