About Founder's Day and the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage

Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts marks its pace by the vision, values, and virtues of courage, justice, ethical leadership and socially conscious action that are the legacy of Ivan Allen Jr.

Founder's Day honors Mayor Allen's legacy through symposia and festivities held on or near his March 15 birth date and highlighting research, teaching, endeavors, and innovation that are addressing global challenges.

Our celebration includes presentation of the Ivan Allen Legacy Awards to faculty, student, and alumni and, in those years when a recipient has been chosen, the presentation of the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage.

From 2001-2010, the College presented the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Progress and Service to a leader affiliated with Georgia. The award recognized recipients for outstanding contribution in a profession or field related to one of the disciplines of the College.
