Legacy Awards

Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Awards

The Legacy Awards honor faculty and students whose lives and work embody the spirit of Mayor Allen. Winners are awarded the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Award annually on Founder's Day. The awards are supported through the generosity of Col. Stephen and Mrs. Pamela Hall.


2014

Faculty: Doug Flamming, professor in the school of History, Technology, and Society, for his outstanding teaching and scholarship in addition to his contributions to the campus community.


Alumni: Michelle Homier, BS from the School of History, Technology, and Society, for her appointment as first female judge in the history of Cherokee County and for her work to create a mental health court to improve substance abuse treatment.

Graduate Student: Johann Weber, PhD candidate in the School of Public Policy, for his leadership as the founder and chair of Georgia Tech's Bicycle Committee (BIIC) and for his academic success.


Undergraduate Student: Caroline Gwynn, Science, Technology, and Culture major with a concentration in biomedicine, for her outstanding achievements in the honors program and active participation in a variety of service organizations.

Margaret Kosal

Faculty:  Dr. Lisa Yaszek, professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, for extraordinary work in science fiction's sociological applications and dedication as a teacher.  


Alex West

Alumni:  Travis Horsley, MSc in Public Policy (2012) and BS in International Affairs and Modern Languages (2010), for co-founding Tubing Operations for Humanitarian Logistics (TOHL), an enterprise with a plan and technology to revolutionize the way isolated communities receive water.  

Nettrice Gaskins

Graduate Student:  Andrew Quitmeyer, PhD candidate in Digital Media in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, for his research connecting the quantitative realms of computer science and biology with the creative area of digital performance in projects that have taken him around the world.  

Kate Wharton

Undergraduate Student:  Angeli Patel, International Affairs major and Philosophy and Law, Science, and Technology minors, for her foundation and leadership of ReThink, focusing on disabilities education, and her active participation in campus activities.
