Sci Fi Lab Presents Capek's Play

This Thursday, November 1, the Sci Fi Lab will present an original adaptation of Karel Capek's *RUR: Rossum's Universal Robots.* Written in 1920 and first produced a year later, *RUR* introduced the word "robot" to the English language. One of the first and most influential plays in this history of science fiction, *RUR* inspired later representations of artificial humans including the replicants in Ridley Scott's *Blade Runner* and the Cylons in the new *Battlestar Galactica.* Other references to Capek and his groundbreaking play appear in *Dollhouse,* *Star TRek:TOS,* *Batman: The Animated Series,* *The Outer Limits,* and *Futurama.* So tune in and experience a piece of science fiction history!

Originally created and supervised by LMC professor Lisa Yaszek, the Sci Fi Lab is a student-run, joint production of the School of Literature, Media and Communication, the Georgia Tech Library and WREK radio. Listeners in the Atlanta area can tune in live every Thursday night from 7-8 pm; listeners further afield can stream us at http://www.wrek.org.
