College Launches “Hire Our Graduates” Campaign to Employers

Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts graduates should be more “top of mind” among hiring managers at Atlanta companies. A new brochure mailed on November 21 introduces the distinctive attributes of Ivan Allen alumni to CEOs and hiring managers at businesses and nonprofits across the city.

“Our alumni affirmed in surveys that their education here develops skills that are unique and valuable in the technology driven global marketplace,” said Rebecca Keane, Director of Communications for Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. “This brochure introduces that message into the #1 hiring market for our graduates – Atlanta – with goals of paving the way for our alumni in their job searches and inviting companies to partner with the College in recruiting, internships, and more.”

The brochure highlights the strengths of graduates who’ve studied within Ivan Allen’s interdisciplinary degree programs.

“Our message to employers is that Ivan Allen College graduates work at the nexus of 21 century creativity, merging technology and human experience to innovative human-centered solutions,” said Dean Jacqueline Royster, dean of the College. “Their knowledge base and cross-disciplinary framework for problem-solving framework is informed by Georgia Tech’s world-leading technology ecosystem. This is an effort to shine a light on one of Georgia’s best assets for future growth.” 

The timing of the campaign is auspicious given that the market seems to be reassessing the value of liberal arts degrees.

“The tech revolution moved the pendulum toward valuing technical degrees over those in the liberal arts, but Steve Jobs may have changed the public dialog on this when he said humanities graduates were his most creative employees. In the past year we’ve seen articles in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Fast Company, the Wall Street Journal and others, touting the strengths of liberal arts graduates.”

The brochure showcases how Ivan Allen College graduates bring something new to the workspace.

“Georgia Tech chose a bold path 25 years ago when we committed to developing programs that merge studies in the liberal arts, science, and business disciplines with expertise in science, technology, engineering, and computing,” said Royster. “This brochure will bring greater awareness to the special abilities of our graduates and alumni and bolster the efforts of advisors and faculty in the College and in Georgia Tech’s career office who are working to strengthen career resources and connections between the College and employers.”
