HSOC Alumna Yu Tao Presents at National Academies Workshop

Posted April 3, 2017

Yu Tao, an associate professor of sociology at Stevens Institute of Technology and alumna of the Ivan Allen College School of History and Sociology, was invited by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to give a talk on National Science Foundation (NSF) data at a workshop on October 20, 2016.

The workshop, organized by the National Academies, aimed to allow the NSF to evaluate its methods of measuring the science and engineering workforce. Tao was one of the few early-career researchers invited to speak there, and her talk provided insights that could help key NSF surveys continue to improve their relevance and usefulness for policy and research.

Tao received a Master of Science in History and Sociology of Technology and Science (2007) and a Ph.D. in Sociology of Science and Technology (2009) from Georgia Tech. Tao and Willie Pearson Jr., a professor in the School of History and Sociology, co-edited the book, Changing the Face of Engineering: The African American Experience, which was published in 2015.
