Dr. Laura Bier is an Associate Professor in the School of History, Technology, and Society. She is a social and cultural historian with a specialty in post-colonial Egyptian history. She received her PhD from New York University in History and Middle East Studies. She has been the recipient of a number of grants, including a Fulbright and a Fulbright-Hays for her research on gender and state socialism in Egypt. Her work has appeared in the journals Feminist Studies and Gender and History and in edited collections on the family in the Middle East and on the Bandung Conference. Her book Revolutionary Womanhood: Feminisms, Modernity and the State in Nasser's Egypt was published by Stanford University Press in 2011.
