Undergraduate: B.S. in History, Technology, and Society
Graduate: M.S. and Ph.D. in History and Sociology of Technology and Science

The B.S. in History, Technology, and Society (HTS) offers more than a traditional liberal arts degree. The major is designed to put the technical skills gained by all Georgia Tech students to work on the human problems and complexities of the modern world. Students develop strong verbal and analytical skills, but they are also well-rounded students with additional interests in literature, music, community service, athletics, or the arts. Many students take leadership roles in campus or civic organizations that prepare them for opportunities after graduation.

Foundation courses include American and European history, sociology, economics, and a foreign language. Small upper level classes equip majors with the methods, specialized knowledge, and theory employed by historians and sociologists. Seniors then use these tools in capstone seminar courses limited to 15 students. Students create their own course of study by selecting HTS and free electives in areas such as languages, computing, literature, women's studies, international relations, policy, or the sciences. Small class sizes permit students to work closely with faculty members, who serve as academic and professional advisors.

An HTS degree provides the competitive edge students need in today's labor market. Employers hire and promote individuals with broad, well-rounded educational backgrounds such as that provided by this program. HTS majors have gone on to careers in education, government service, journalism, public relations, advertising, publishing, consulting, and software design. Examples include marketing, journalist, political lobbyist, program manager for a company in Chicago, and founder of a computer software company. Other graduates have continued their studies in graduate programs in the social sciences and humanities, and in graduate schools of law, business, and medicine.
