The interdisciplinary Science, Technology, and Culture (STAC) degree, located in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture (LCC), gives students the opportunity to explore all aspects of culture, with particular emphasis on literary, scientific, and technological culture. Unlike programs that look at science, technology, and the humanities as separate entities, STAC examines how their interaction shapes particular cultures. For students interested in specializing in film and new media studies, STAC has a Media Studies track that emphasizes these areas.
STAC students are equipped with technical, scientific, and cultural skills that few of their peers can match. STAC students have gone on to graduate programs in policy, law, journalism, medicine, and literature at institutions such as UC Berkeley, the University of Chicago, and Boston University. Graduates also have pursued careers in fields such as web design (Atlanta Braves, CNN, SouthNet, MediaHead, IBM, IXL), secondary education teaching, public relations, environmental policy, publishing, communications (Eastgate, Macquarium, Engineering & Management Press, Brokaft Financial), policy analysis (Colorado General Assembly), marketing, and management (Pearl.net, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, AMUPRO Electronics).
