B and B Stern Foundation Renews Support for Kranzberg Research

Posted December 14, 2015

The B and B Stern Foundation will continue its generous support of research under the Melvin Kranzberg Chair in the History of Technology through a new gift that provides funding for a five-year period through 2020. Funding will support graduate students, workshops, and travel for Kranzberg Professor John Krige in his role as president-elect (president in 2017-2018) of the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT). The Kranzberg Chair resides in the School of History and Sociology.

Melvin Kranzberg was a groundbreaking scholar who cofounded the Society for the History of Technology. He earned a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University, was awarded a Bronze Star for his service during World War II, and joined Tech in 1972 as the Callaway Professor of the History of Technology. The Institute created the chair in his honor after he retired in 1988, and it became fully endowed during Campaign Georgia Tech.
