Dr. Robert Griffin is the ESL/ELL Specialist in the Naugle Communication Center and an Academic Professional in the School of Literature, Media and Communication. Rob earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics from Indiana University—Bloomington where he specialized in Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). His research has focused on issues related to Second Language Acquisition, Phonology and Interlanguage Pragmatics. Griffin has co-published an article with Kathleen Bardovi-Harlig on Pragmatics-related concerns among non-native speakers of English for SYSTEM and was actively involved with Citizenship English programming in Oklahoma City after spearheading two grants from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

From 2004-2019, Rob directed (2006-2012) and taught in the MA Program in TESOL at Oklahoma City University, and, since 2017, has adjuncted in the MA Professional Program in TESOL at the University of Oklahoma. His teaching has concentrated on courses in Studies in Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, American English Phonology, Research and Writing, ESL Assessment and TESOL Practica. He is Past President of Oklahoma TESOL and has been actively involved in the TESOL International Association as Chair of the Forum on Cuban Affairs and a member of the TESOL Standards Professional Council. He has presented at other conference venues such as (AAAL) the American Association of Applied Linguistics, (SLRF) the Second Language Research Forum, (KOTESOL) Korea TESOL, SPELT (Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers) and (GELI) the Cuban Linguists’ Association. He has been a reviewer for TESOL conference proposals and other journal articles and is currently a member of the Fulbright National Screening Committee for English Language Teaching Assistants to Spain.
