• Dhongde Presents Research at the United Nations

  April 11, 2018

  Shatakshee Dhongde, associate professor in the Georgia Tech School of Economics, was invited to present her research on “Multidimensional Deprivation in the U.S.” at the United Nations on March 22, 2018. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) plans to monitor multidimensional poverty in developed countries and invited Dhongde to talk about her research on poverty in the U.S.

• Langford and Owens Join College Advisory Board

  March 26, 2018

  James B. Langford, Executive Director and co-founder of the Georgia Prevention Project (GPP), and Joe Owens, chief financial officer (CFO) of Indego Africa, both join the Ivan Allen College Advisory Board at Georgia Institute of Technology. 

  

• School of Public Policy Announces Inaugural Advisory Board Members

  March 26, 2018

  The Georgia Tech School of Public Policy established an Advisory Board in fall 2017 and announces its inaugural board members: Michael Cassidy, president and CEO of Georgia Research Alliance; Fatimot Ladipo, regional director for External Affairs for AT&T; Amanda Shailendra, economic development and site selection specialist for Google Fiber; and Susan Van Aacken, public health advisor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

• Burnett Recognized with 2018 Regents’ Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award

  Rebecca Burnett, a professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) at Georgia Institute of Technology, received the 2018 Regents’ Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award. Burnett was recognized for her ability to embed the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), a growing movement in post-secondary education that uses discovery, reflection, and evidence-based methods to research effective teaching and student learning, into her own teaching, research, and professional service.

  

• School of Public Policy Climbs in U.S. News & World Report Graduate Program Rankings

  The School of Public Policy climbed two spots in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of the nation's best graduate programs and the school's public policy analysis program also rose two spots, while the school's information technology program held its No. 2 spot and the environmental policy analysis program debuted in the rankings at No. 12.

  

• School of Public Policy Professor Helps Pin Down County-Level Costs of Opioid Epidemic

  The nation’s opioid epidemic, already a scourge as a nationwide killer, exerts a per capita financial toll of as much as $ 8,734 in some U.S. counties, according to a new analysis released March 20, 2018, by a professor in Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Public Policy and his co-author, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

  

• Anderson Presents Prototype at the HBCU ‘Making and Innovation Showcase’

  Jessica Anderson, an alumna of the Graduate Program in Digital Media at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and her transdisciplinary team at Spelman College’s Innovation Lab, featured their mobile application prototype at the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) ‘Making and Innovation Showcase’ which took place February 22 – 24, 2018, in Washington, D.C. The project aims to promote gender equality by providing a way to actively counter sexual assault and build mindful communities who diligently take part in reducing harassment rates.

  

• Michney Wins DILAC Award

  Congratulations to Todd Michney for winning a $25,000 grant from the IAC’s Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center (DILAC) to continue his work digitizing Ivan Allen’s archives.

  

• Georgia Tech Model United Nations Hosts First Collegiate Conference

  The Georgia Tech Model UN (GTMUN) program hosted TechMUN this past weekend. This was the team’s first collegiate conference they’ve hosted.

   

  

• Klein Awarded Collaborative Research Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies

  March 14, 2018

  Lauren Klein, assistant professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC), was recently awarded a Collaborative Research Fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). The fellowship allows her and collaborator Catherine D’Ignazio, researcher, artist, and software developer at Emerson College, to work on Data Feminism, which will become a book to be published by the MIT Press.

  A newly published paper by Nassim JafariNaimi, a professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communications, questions the assumption that self-driving cars will need to be programmed to make life-or-death decisions in the case of an unavoidable accident.

  

• Thomas Honored with Class of 1934 Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activities Award

  Valerie Thomas, professor in the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, has been awarded the Class of 1934 Outstanding Interdisciplinary Activities Award by the Faculty Honors Committee. The award was established to recognize Georgia Tech faculty who have made significant interdisciplinary contributions to teaching and research.

  

• Sports, Society, and Technology Workshop Examines Concussion Issue

• Brown Presents on Grid Integrated Vehicles to Department of Energy Advisory Committee

  Marilyn Brown, professor in the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, presented a subcommittee report on grid integrated vehicles to the Department of Energy’s Electricity Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Arlington, Virginia.
